Karim Basbous is a registered architect who holds a doctorate from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. He is a tenured academic at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Val de Seine and also teaches at the Ecole Polytechnique. His works include Avant l’oeuvre, essai sur l’invention architecturale (Paris, Editions de l’imprimeur, 2005) and articles in Le Visiteur which he has edited since 2007, and academic journals including Faces, Les Cahiers de l’Ecole de Blois, New Geographies, Albertiana, les Cahiers de l’Herne, and Décor. He has also contributed to monthly publications such as Le Monde Diplomatique. In 2015, the daily newspaper Libération published his interview with Julien Gester on Le Corbusier’s oeuvre. He has been in charge of cultural activities at the Société française des architectes since 2007 and is a former member of the Arts and Bibliophilia commission at the Centre National du Livre, which provides grants for publishing projects, for which he still regularly provides readers’ reports on books about architecture.
